“I listened to this podcast…”

Am I the only one who feels like this is how I begin many conversations these days? Very annoying, I’m sure. Where would we be without podcasts? Was it lockdown where we all became so addicted? I hardly find myself ever driving solo with anything but a podcast on in my car. Gone are the days of listening to XM radio. Who even does that, except maybe during the holidays? I prefer the true crime and self help categories best. But I’m also a fan of the Foster sisters of The World’s First Podcast. I cried when I found out Erin and Simon were expecting. I remember when Erin liked a comment I posted on her Instagram account and I was shocked. Of course, she doesn’t know who the hell I am, but it made me feel very VIP that she acknowledged my comment. Another set of sisters I love listening to is the Bledsoes of The Pop Apologists. Lauren and Chanler’s take on celebrity gossip is so decadent and entertaining. Their relationship as sisters is precious too. If you haven’t listened, give them a try. They are experts at the deep dive and their obsession with Taylor Swift is beyond. They also turned me on to a skincare routine I plan to share soon.

Back to the Foster sisters…I just finished the recent The World’s First Podcast episode with guest Emily Morse. Yowza! The topic is a little X-rated, so I’ll just let you look for the episode that features her name. It was eye-opening, to say the least. Believe it or not, I take a lot of notes when listening, sometimes while driving, which I know is extremely dangerous and I need to stop doing it immediately. One thing Ms. Morse said that resonated with me was about confidence. She said “confidence ebbs and flows. It’s not just a place where you arrive and then you’re finished.” I may be going out on a limb by saying this, but I think this is something we as women all have in common. We have days where we feel pretty good about ourselves, and then we shift into a cycle of life of not feeling very confident. Months of feeling like life is going pretty well, and then a sharp turn where we feel insecure and like total failures, especially as moms. Anyway, The World’s First Podcast, episode 136 is a must. And Emily Morse has one of her own - Sex With Emily.

Another favorite is Tinx. I discovered Tinx while listening to the Lipstick on the Rim Podcast with Molly Sims and Esme Gormley (side note: sign up for Molly’s amazing $8,000 beauty giveaway on Instagram which ends 12/26.). Molly and Esme share great tips on fashion, skincare, aging etc. Their friendship is just lovely. But, if you don’t know Tinx, you should start following her on Instagram immediately. Her book, The Shift, A Guide to Dating, Self-Worth and Becoming the Main Character in Your Own Life is a must-read for any female over the age of 18. In fact, I ordered a copy from Amazon and had it delivered to my daughter while she was working at a summer camp in North Carolina last June. She was mortified. Her first reaction was something like “Mom, why on Earth did you order this for me?” But quickly changed to,… “The other counselors want to borrow it when I’m finished.” She covers topics ranging from sex and dating to her Rich Mom content where she pokes fun at the quiet luxury trend and moms who appear to have it all together. Tinx has her own podcast too, It’s Me, Tinx, where she shares hilarious and often brutally honest wisdom on “how to shift your approach to life, step into your confidence, and enjoy the journey.” I highly recommend adding her podcast to your digital library. She’s a Stanford grad and certainly much younger than I am, but I love her message and confidence.

I assume we are all over the holiday shopping madness, so sharing some favorite podcasts felt like a nice breather, especially as 2024 is just around the corner. Podcasts are an accessible way to learn new things, often make you feel happier after listening, and are a great way to get you off of your screen. I don’t mind a long walk if I have something good to listen to. My girlfriends and I are constantly sharing what we love with each other. I would love to hear from you and what your favorites are. Please share in the comments and I’ll compile a “best of” list.

Happy Holidays!

Cheers,

SaraBee
